The Storyteller Agency

By | Seaside Blog, Welcome | No Comments

2.18 LauraCan you believe it?  The Seaside School Half Marathon/5K Run & Taste of the Race are just days away!  By now you probably know everything you’d ever want to know about these two South Walton events.  Why do you know so much?  Because we’ve told our story many times through conversations and of course various forms of marketing!  Many of our sponsors have played vital roles in helping us spread the word about our event.  One sponsor that has helped out in a tremendous way is The Storyteller Agency.

Hands-on and actively involved with our cause, The Storyteller Agency is headed up by “Chief Storyteller,” Laura Holloway.  A Blue Mountain Beach resident, she’s passionate about many things including dogs, theatre, and conversations- but what she is most fanatical about is marketing.  Her ultra-effective approach towards marketing is an up-to-the-minute philosophy that has never been more relevant in today’s social media ruled world.

The Storyteller Agency’s approach is to “stop marketing and start storytelling.”  They believe that marketing is no longer about selling your service or product. It’s about having an ongoing conversation with your customers and sharing an experience.  They refine your message and present your businesses in a whole new light.  A partnership with The Storyteller Agency leads to increased online visibility and an expanded loyal following.  Their expertise spans all forms of digital content including written, visual, and social storytelling.

2.18 Laura2

Laura and her agency played a big role in helping us sell out the VIP tickets to our inaugural Taste of the Race event.  If you heard our story but didn’t act fast enough, there is still one way you can join in on the fun.  Although nearly sold out, we do have general admission tickets available for Taste of the Race.  This extravaganza will be held on the Seaside Lyceum under climate-controlled tents on Friday, February 27th.  Hosted by celebrity Chef Emeril Lagasse and his Emeril’s Florida as well as the local TDC, South Walton– ticket holders will enjoy cuisine from over 20 of the Gulf Coast’s Top Chefs & Restaurants. In addition to fine food and drink, there will also be a performance by Trick Pony!  There are a handful of tickets left, and priced at only $99.  You can purchase tickets online at http://www.eventbrite.com/e/taste-of-the-race-tickets-14071021805

See you soon!

2.17 Seagars

Seagar’s Prime Steaks & Seafood to participate in Taste of the Race

By | Seaside Blog | No Comments

Seagar’s Prime Steaks & Seafood is hands down one of the best restaurants in fine dining along our Gulf Coast. It opened in 1998 and is very much a New York style restaurant that offers an award winning 600 label wine list. Yes, you read that correctly, 600 labels. Executive Chef Dan Vargo uses only the finest ingredients, like aged Prime USDA steaks and only the freshest seafood. The kind of attention and service you receive at Seagar’s is 2nd to none and is perfect for an intimate dinner for two or a corporate reception.

 2.17 Pic1

You will not leave Seagar’s disappointed or hungry.  It offers an extensive menu and something for everyone. It’s critical that I mention something VERY important before you continuing: If you love chocolate like I do, and if it’s on the menu the night you dine, you must pre-order the chocolate soufflé. It’s heavenly! Now that dessert is out of the way, we can discuss the rest of the menu, which includes but isn’t limited to:

  • Baked Camembert with a sweet cranberry relish and petite salad
  • Classic Lobster Bisque
  • Eggplant & Tomato Crab Napoleon
  • Pan Seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras
  • Main Lobster
  • Alaskan King Crab Legs
  • Mac Farms Green Salad with butternut squash, walnuts, red onion and a Meyer lemon vinaigrette
  • Roasted Beet Salad with red and gold beets, hazelnuts, orange, blue cheese and a pomegranate vinaigrette
  • Caesar Salad for Two prepared tableside
  • Steak Diane
  • Lamb Chop
  • Bone-In Ribeye
  • Custom Cut Filet Mignon
  • Entrée Additions include Pork Belly, Maytag/Bacon, Oscar, and Grilled Shrimp
  • Vegetables include asparagus, creamed spinach, creamed corn, and onion rings, just to name a few

2.17 Pic2

Now if you are rolling off the beach, sunburned, covered in tanning oil and sporting your denim cut off jeans and flip flops, this is not your place. Seagar’s is truly a fine dining establishment and reservations are recommended. The best part? They are joining us for Taste of the Race and cooking up something special, no doubt about it. I can’t wait to know what they’ll be adding to our menu that night.  If you have an upcoming special occasion or just celebrating life, consider dining at Seagar’s.

If you are visiting or a local and looking for 30A events in February, this is an event you don’t want to miss! Join Chef Emeril Lagasse in person at “Taste of the Race.” To purchase tickets, please visit http://www.tasteoftherace.eventbrite.com.  This event will sell out, so plan ahead and purchase tickets today.

2.16 Copy Systems

Copy Systems Business Center Sponsors Seaside School Half Marathon & 5k

By | Seaside Blog | No Comments

2.16 Copy Systems

Seaside Foundation is excited to include Copy Systems Business Center as a sponsor for this year’s race.  Copy Systems is a local company that supports many non-profits and educational organizations throughout “one of the most beautiful places on earth!”

Open since 1995, Copy Systems Business Center is a full-service business center with locations in Destin (Okaloosa County) and Santa Rosa Beach (South Walton, Walton County).  Copy Systems specializes in printing and signs as well as binding, laminating, custom printing, letterhead, custom products (such as pens, huggies, shirts, hats) and signage (such as banners, real estate signs, vehicle wraps, flags, stickers).

Copy Systems Business Center has been very active in numerous local, charitable events for the past 20 years in the Santa Rosa Beach, South Walton and Destin areas.  Copy Systems does its best to provide the best quality service and products to all local businesses that cater to the tourist and vacation markets.

Copy Systems was eager to help support the race because it is easy to offer its products and services to events like this because being part of the community effort to bring special events to the local area is very important to the local economy.  Copy Systems provides the necessary printed materials, banners and signs for advertising before, during and after the event.  Copy Systems hopes to make it easy for the event coordinators to not have to worry about where they need to go to get anything we provide, sometimes in a very short-notice timeframe.  Its sponsorship helps to make all phases of planning and execution go smoother by quick turnaround of almost any printing need for the event.  Copy Systems was such a huge help in printing all our necessary posters and other promotional items for Taste of the Race. This is the kickoff event for race weekend.

2.12 taste of the race

The impact of the race on the local community, visitors and marketing is important and Copy System owner, Paul Woolman, agrees.  “Any event that attracts thousands of visitors can’t be a bad thing.  With regional and sometimes national advertising, our area is showcased as ‘the place to go’ for both vacation and activity entertainment.  South Walton and the 30A area offer one of the best areas for a race such as this because of all the natural trails and quaint communities that offer all the amenities of larger cities while maintaining that remote atmosphere.”

Paul’s goal for race sponsorship is that Copy Systems Business Center will be recognized as the local personal and professional business center that is there for all those who take any part in this event throughout the year.  We hope to grow with the community while providing the best of the best in all printing needs.

Copy Systems continues to grow every year.  After 20 years in the area, it has proven that it is here to stay.  They are always looking for better ways to improve the best and most efficient means of providing valuable products to the businesses and individuals in our area.  With two convenient locations, they are able to take care of almost any challenge presented to it.

The Seaside School Foundation along with Copy Systems, welcome all of the participants and the locals that will take part in this year’s race.

To learn more about Copy Systems Business Center, visit www.copysystemsonline.com.  Share your race training, travel adventures and race weekend moments on Instagram #seasidefl5k. The Seaside School Foundation thank Copy Systems for its support.

2.14 Duckies

Duckies & Mercantile

By | Seaside Blog | No Comments

The Seaside School Half Marathon & 5K Run is only days away and the whole town is a-buzz counting down.  Before you know it thousands of runners from around the world will be joining us for a fun weekend-long extravaganza here in Seaside.  So many people and businesses have come together to make this world-class charity event possible.  For the past few months we’ve been taking time to publicly thank our valued sponsors here on our blog. Today we are thanking two of our sponsors… and neighbors!

Duckies Shop of Fun and Mercantile are not only our neighbors here in Seaside, they are actually neighbors of each other.  Located in the heart of town on Central Square these two distinctive shops are owned by locals Bryan & Stacy Pritchett. Although they are in nearly identical locations and are held by the same family, they are completely different stores and if you are not already familiar with them, now’s the time to plan your visit.

2.14 Duckies

The ultimate South Walton shop of fun, Duckies is a whimsical world that carries toys, kids’ clothing and just plain silly stuff.  Guests are “wowed” as they enter and everyone always has a smile on their face.  Jam packed full of fun, kids and the young at heart take delight in watching toys spin and parachute themselves from shelves.  Duckies is a must-visit for all and an excellent place to get lost in the moment.

2.14 Mercantile-1

Steps away is a store with the motto “Dress Well – Live Well – Give Well” -of course we’re talking about Mercantile.  The coast of Northwest Florida is home to wide assortment of trendy boutiques, but as Bryan & Stacy dreamed up their second shop in Seaside, they realized they wanted to create a “place to get neutral-colored wearables and gifts that were well-worn, distressed, vintage-inspired – and even a bit western.” Further explaining their inspiration, “We drew on our Texas roots, love for antiques, appreciation for goods that were imperfect and started brainstorming. We took a road trip through the Lone Star State combing antique stores, mom and pops, restaurants and other places that inspired us. “  The result of their hard-work is one of the Emerald Coast’s most unique boutiques. At Mercantile you’ll find that they carry as much made in the USA, eco-friendly, and cause related items as possible.  They also support local designers and operate their business under the Golden Rule, treat others as we would like to be treated.

Not only do we want to take time to thank our sponsors, we want to thank everyone in the community that has helped us grow our little race over the years.  Thanks to the great community support this year, our weekend of festivities has grown even a little more.  Taste of the Race is a brand new stand-alone event that will take place on February 27th, the Friday before the race. Presented by Emeril’s Florida, Chef Emeril Lagasse, and the local TDC (South Walton) – this festive culinary celebration will host delectable dishes from 20 of the Top Chefs.  Hosted under climate controlled tents on the Seaside Lyceum and live music performed by Trick Pony, this party is sure to become one of the most talked about events in South Walton. There are only a few tickets left, so if you are thinking about joining us now is the time to buy.  We hope to see you there!

2.13 Prime

Atlanta’s Prime Restaurant to participate in Taste of the Race

By | Seaside Blog | No Comments

2.13 Pic 1

“Here to Serve” restaurants located in the Atlanta area.  In the mid 90’s, Leigh Catherall and Master Chef Tom Catherall started “Here to Serve.” These restaurants offer a very diverse range of dining experiences, from steaks and seafood, to sushi and Spanish tapas. They even have an in house bakery, Crust.  We are so excited the team at Prime is hitting the road and headed for the beach to cook for us at “Taste of the Race.”

2.13 Pic 2

Prime is a steak, sushi, and seafood restaurant with a lunch, dinner, and sushi menu.  Here are a few items I personally would love to try from all the three menus:

  • Braised Short Ribs ‘Tater Skins’
  • Cottage Fries tossed with a garlic and truffle oil and served with a white cheddar fondue
  • Carpaccio of Beef Tenderloin with fried capers and parmesan cheese
  • Spinach and Baby Arugula salad with apples and goat cheese
  • Wood Grilled Pimiento Cheese Sandwich
  • Hot Chile Calamari
  • Grilled Sea Scallops
  • Petite Filet (they offer a plethora of additions like an over easy egg and caramelized onions)
  • Sides include Fries, creamed spinach, okra fries and white cheddar macaroni
  • Ahi Tuna Steak
  • Wagyu ‘Kobe’ Burger
  • Lobster Cobb
  • Tuna Tartar with a quail egg (this and below-Sushi Menu)
  • Yellowtail Jalapeno
  • Prime Special Roll
  • Miami Vice
  • Sushi Sashimi for One or Two

 2.13 Pic 3

Yes, that is quite a long list of things I’d like to sample. I think I need a snack. That’s also my edited list as it was much longer. Their menus look amazing and I am so looking forward to finding out what they will be cooking up on Friday evening February 27th!  What an honor that we have the support of “Here to Serve.” We are so grateful, as are our bellies.

2.11 Stinkys

Stinky’s Fish Camp to participate in Taste of the Race

By | Seaside Blog | No Comments

2.11 Pic 2

Chef Jim Richard heads up a culinary dream team of sorts here in South Walton. Between Stinky’s Fish Camp and his other restaurant Lake Place, he has Chef Janca, Chef Misener, and Chef Withall all cooking up amazing dishes for us locals and tourists alike. Chef Richard grew up in Louisiana and attended the Culinary Institute of America in New York.  However, you don’t have to read Chef Richard’s bio to know he has culinary chops (pun intended).  His food speaks for itself.

Everyone knows Stinky’s and everyone loves Stinky’s.  Their motto is “It is what it is and It ain’t what it ain’t.”  What it is, is a fun and relaxed family seafood restaurant and wine bar that uses only the freshest ingredients and seafood. What is aint? It’s not stuffy and off-putting. From the minute you walk in the door, you feel welcomed as if you are entering into a friend’s home for dinner…a really yummy dinner! My son Hayden loves Stinky’s and if we ask him where he wants to grab dinner, “Stinky’s” is more often than not, his answer.  Below is a sample from their current menu, the first being my little guy’s personal favorite:

  • Spiced Boiled Snow Crab Legs
  • Sautéed Shrimp & Grits
  • Smokey Braised Short Ribs
  • Stinky’s Stew
  • Panne Chicken Fettuccini
  • Crawfish Pie
  • Surf and Turf
  • Stinky’s Fresh Fish of the Day

They offer Taco Tuesday from 11-3 and an amazing Sunday Brunch from 10-3.

 2.11 Pic 3

If you don’t have plans for Valentine’s Day and want a relaxed and easy going dining experience, check out their Valentine’s Day Tasting Menus. They are offering a Three Course Menu for $50 and a Four Course Tasting Menu for $60.  With great enthusiasm and anticipation, we welcome the team at Stinky’s Fish Camp to our lineup at Taste of the Race.

2.10 Whiskey Bravo

723 Whiskey Bravo to participate in Taste of the Race

By | Seaside Blog | No Comments

2.10 Pic 1

723 Whiskey Bravo is somewhat of the new kid on the block out here on 30A, but boy did they make an entrance! If you haven’t had the pleasure of dining there, you have at the very least likely driven by the restaurant and noticed this beautiful white modern building, just a hop skip and a jump from the Gulf. Founders Skip and Victoria Moore, like so many others, fell in love with 30A and had always dreamed of opening an amazing neighborhood restaurant. They decided to leave Atlanta and settle here in Florida and bring their vision to life. People often ask how they came up with the name 723 Whiskey Bravo.  They were married on July 23rd and have a passion for flying. They combined their wedding date and favorite call letters from the aviation alphabet: W for Whiskey and B for Bravo. I can personally say that if you haven’t experienced grabbing a drink in their open-air modern rooftop bar, you are truly missing out.

 2.10 Pic 2

As for the menu, Whiskey Bravo has a lunch menu, a dinner menu, a 5 for $15 menu, and a kids menu for the littlest of diners. A few current favorites include:

  • Fresh Grilled or Fried Grouper Sandwich
  • Grilled Yellow Fin Tuna Sandwich
  • Saint-Barths Salad Nicoise
  • Crispy Calamari Salad
  • Crispy Duck Spinach Salad
  • Fried Shrimp Wrap
  • Victoria Salad (a unique item on the menu) Delicious mixed green salad topped with a fresh angus beef patty
  • Braised Beef Short Ribs
  • Pasta Bolognese
  • And my favorite dessert there, the Key Lime Pie. It’s amazing!

 2.10 Pic 3

2.10 Pic 4

We love their story and hope you will go check them out for lunch or dinner, if you haven’t already. We are thrilled to have them on our team for Taste of the Race with Chef Emeril Lagasse. We look forward to seeing what they have on the menu for us that night.  February 27th will be here before we know it. If you still need to buy your tickets, click the link below.  See you there!

2.9 Destin Plastic

Destin Plastic Surgery Sponsors Seaside School Half Marathon & 5k

By | Seaside Blog | No Comments

2.9 Destin PlasticDestin Plastic Surgery wants you to go that extra mile to do something extraordinary. Along the way, they hope you help others and inspire those around you. And that is exactly what they do by sponsoring the Seaside School Half Marathon and 5k

I had the pleasure to chat with South Walton residents, Dr. William Burden and his wife Pamela Burden, recently, both of whom I’ve known for years through our children’s various school and sporting activities.  You will often see Dr. Burden peering through the lens, taking pictures at cheerleading competitions or basketball games, or Pam volunteering at the homecoming dance or donating a multitude of items for any given event.  Although they have a busy practice, they always make time to attend their children’s activities, school events and support special events such as the Seaside School Half Marathon and 5K Run.

Dr. & Mrs. Burden founded Destin Plastic Surgery in 1995.  Seeking to make Destin Plastic Surgery a place where you would want to take your family member, they achieved that and more by introducing new techniques to the region, such as microvascular surgery, fiber optic no-scar-on-the-breast surgery, minimal-scar and no-scar-on-the-face surgery, as well as various forms of advanced liposuction techniques. Some of the services offered include breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, facelift, brow lift, liposuction, hair transplant, BOTOX, Skincare & Peels, vein treatment, along with many other services.

As a hard achiever in high school and college with an interest in software development, Dr. Burden worked to make Destin Plastic Surgery one of the first digital offices in the country and was introduced to improve the communication between the patient and himself.  Dr. Burden felt that, “by being able to visualize the results, patients had a better understanding of what was possible… communication is very important.”  He spends as much time as necessary with the patients in consultation.

Dr. Burden and Pam Burden have expanded the practice to include skincare and non-surgical options such as Botox and laser treatments to offer patients who are not ready for or do not need surgical treatments but want to be the best they can be.

2.9 Pic 2The combination of high patient satisfaction, advanced surgical techniques, 20-years’ experience and a knowledgeable staff make Destin Plastic Surgery a frequent destination for those along the Emerald Coast and from around the world!  Something to celebrate along with its 20 year anniversary is the completion of the 5000 square foot expansion, bringing the medical center space to over 20,000 square feet.  Future goals include expanding services to fill up that space.

When asked what impact the race has on the local community, Dr. Burden shared, “While in the area, participants see the community at its finest and will understand all that is available to them in our piece of paradise.”

The Burden’s hope that their sponsorship will help the race attract new visitors which, in turn, will create new friends for our community and improvement in the opportunities available to the families in the South Walton, Seaside, 30A and Walton County area.  Dr. Burden feels that 30A is a great location for the race.  “All one has to do is walk along the 30A trail and take in the surroundings.   You are surrounded by unique natural beauty and geography not seen elsewhere in the world.”

The Burdens sponsored the race because the race represents their personal and business theme…  Strive to be better.  Go that extra mile to do something extraordinary.  Along the way help others and inspire those around you.  That about says it all.

Emerald Coast Magazine

By | Seaside Blog | No Comments

Although the Seaside School Half Marathon & 5K is less than a month away, it’s been sold out for quite sometime now.   There’s a ton of hard work involved with getting the word out about our event and many have been extremely helpful with the heavy lifting.  One of the heavy lifters, and one of our valued sponsors, is Emerald Coast Magazine.

2.7 Pic 1Centered out of a once sleepy little fishing village, just a few miles down the road from us, Emerald Coast Magazine is a bi-monthly publication that focuses on capturing the lifestyle of the Emerald Coast, one compelling story at a time.  Their magazine has become a valuable communication link in the region that connects people and events (hence the heavy lifting). Covering events, local businesses, and the people that call our coast home, Emerald Coast Magazine has excelled in providing relevant quality content.  Their outstanding success with keeping people informed has helped heighten the local sense of community and enhances the sense of pride in the place we choose to live and work.

It’s no wonder why Emerald Coast Magazine has triumphed as a regional print publication. It’s just one of the many community magazines produced by powerhouse Rowland Publishing, INC.  For the past decade-and-a-half this Tallahassee based company has shaped a range of attractive and high-quality community publications spanning throughout Northwest Florida.  Although they are involved in countless projects, their proprietary publications are Tallahassee Magazine, 850, Tallahassee Newcomer Guide, and the Tallahassee Business Journal.   In addition to providing their own titles, Rowland Publishing produces full service turnkey publications for many organizations including a few for our neighbors at Sandestin with Sandestin Living and the Hilton’s Footprints.

We’d like to thank everyone involved with the incredible task of selling out our race so swiftly.   If you are one of the many who missed your chance to register for the run, you’ll be happy to know we added an all-new event this year.  Chances are you’ve already heard and have your tickets, but just in case, Taste of the Race will be held two days before the run on Friday, February 27th.  A stand-alone event, this extravaganza will offer cuisine from nearly 20 of the Gulf Coast’s Top Chefs & Restaurants including Celebrity Chef Emeril Lagasse. Taking place under climate controlled tents at the Seaside Lyceum, Taste of the Race is sure to quickly become one of the best events on the Emerald Coast.  Additional offerings at this event will include beverages poured by Grayton Beer, Wine World, and Coca-Cola.  A live performance from Trick Pony. Tickets are available for only $99. You can purchase your tickets here.  We hope to see you there!

2.5 Crust

Crust Artisan Bakery to participate in Taste of the Race

By | Seaside Blog | No Comments

2.5 Pic 2

I still remember all the excitement about town when Crust Artisan Bakery opened. From day one, people raved over this new restaurant. South Walton Residents Mark and Kim Fressell succeeded at creating great buzz, and more importantly, delivered even better food in a charming atmosphere. How can you not love a restaurant/bakery serving up wood-fired pizzas and traditional Italian food, including pastries and pastas using family recipes handed down many generations? Magnifico!

What to order? Oh the choices!

  • A plethora of pizzas including a traditional Margarita and Fungi (mushroom) pizza, to a Marinara pizza with no cheese, to a delicious Meatball pizza with ricotta, pesto, and meatballs.
  • Amazing sandwiches like a salami sandwich with eggplant and salami served on crust baguette as well as a grilled veggie sandwich with fresh mozzarella.
  • Salads include a Mixed green salad, Arugula salad with toasted walnuts, Tomato Caprese, and a Veggie Caprese.
  • Moving onto dinner…Lamb lollipops, Mussels, Calamari appetizer, and Lobster Fra Diablo, Shrimp Scampi, and an amazing Grouper dish with a lemon beurre blanc.

Crust is known for creating amazing meatballs and I am looking forward to enjoying their meatballs, riceballs, and eggplant parm at Taste of the Race.  I’d love to get my hands on these secret family recipes! I hope to see your smiling (and hungry) faces there.

Emeril’s Orlando to participate in Taste of the Race

By | Seaside Blog | No Comments

I can’t tell you how many countless times my family and I have taken a “vacation” to Disneyworld. I can’t tell you because I lost count. Yep…been that many times.  I was very happy, (ok, to be more accurate, slightly relieved), when my boys had an interest in Universal vs. Disney. One of my biggest issues with Disney is we spend a fortune on sub par meals and hotels. Long story short, our “vacation” to Universal Orlando was a big success. Not only were the two parks within walking distance from our hotel, but we discovered that Chef Emeril Lagasse had restaurants there! Winning! Emeril’s Orlando is one of said restaurants. Not only are we fortunate to have the support of Chef Lagasse and his family here at the school and The Seaside School Half Marathon & 5K Run, but we are lucky enough to be able to indulge in food from several of his restaurants at Taste of the Race!

Emeril’s Orlando is located at the epicenter of Universal’s Citywalk, and overlooks all the action. There’s an open kitchen and a chef’ s food bar, where lucky diners get the opportunity to see the magic happen front and center. Here is a little glimpse into the menu there if you haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing it first hand:

  • Tuna Poke “Bam Bam”
  • Roasted Sweet Corn & Shrimp Salsa
  • Emeril’s Salad with sun dried tomatoes, brioche croutons, pepperjack cheese, EVOO, and balsamic vinegar
  • Cheeseburgers, Turkey Burgers, yummy fish sandwiches
  • Wood oven pizzas
  • Shrimp & Grits (mascarpone grits I tell you)
  • Duck Confit
  • Roasted Salmon served with my favorite risotto
  • Vegetarian Options too
  • And the MOST important part of any menu for this girl, Desserts galore! Banana Cream Pie and Flourless Decadent Chocolate Torte, and Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee just to name a few.

I don’t know yet what will be on Emeril Orlando’s Taste of the Race menu, but I know it will be excellent! I know that all the food at Taste of the Race will be excellent. Got Tickets?
