Make your race experience more like a vacation than a workout by planning a friend-cation weekend trip to 30A for the 2020 Seaside School Half Marathon & 5K! If you’re looking for a charming, wine-filled weekend with spa treatments, chic shops, and gorgeous coastal views… South Walton is definitely the place to be.

Grab a few gal pals and check out this itinerary a well-deserved getaway! We’d like to think a little sunshine, exercise and fabulous food and drinks can cure even the worst case of winter blues.

Cheers to the weekend!

Plan to arrive Friday and check into a gorgeous bungalow…. There are lots of options available!

  1. Make sure to claim the room with a view (and the biggest tub).
  2. Unload bottles of wine you smuggled in your suitcase.
  3. Toast on the porch and promise that what happens in South Walton, stays in South Walton!

Next, it’s time to shop the Seaside Merchants! You will need that perfect beach dress you can only find at one of the amazing shops and don’t forget to grab a Seaside Style sweatshirt to sport for years to come. Need an Instagram-worthy moment to make your family back at home jealous? Head to Ruskin Place for the perfect lush background to make your friends drool… or come along next year for the fun!

Head back to your home away from home and get your glam on for Taste of the Race party, but don’t plan for dinner. You’ll want to come hungry…

Before the party starts, head over to Bud and Alley’s for drinks before the sun sets. Listen for the bell that marks when the sun dips into the Gulf and be sure to cheer!

Got your tickets in hand for the Taste of the Race? Great! it’s going to be a fabulous night. If you splurged on the VIP reception, you can meet Chef Emeril Lagasse himself before enjoying cuisine from the Gulf Coast’s top chefs and restaurants. Did we mention the wine and spirits? There is lots of it thanks to our Libation Sponsors at Grayton Beer Company, and we promise some lively music to keep you out on the dance floor late into the evening.

Spend Saturday in Seaside

Greet Saturday with coffee at Amavida in Seaside… that might be the best cup of coffee you’ve ever had. Pick up a pastry or giant mimosa at Modica Market, then swing by Sundog Books for your morning paper and snap a selfie by the iconic and historic, Seaside Post Office

Change into your swimsuit (and cover-up depending on the weather) and hit the beach! Nothing says girls trip like a photo of your toes in the sand.

Meander over to the Race Expo to pick-up your race gear and packets. Need another photo op? MLB Hall of Fame pitcher, Tom Glavine, will be there signing autographs and taking photos. Take in a little more shopping at the Silent Auction Expo featuring “Buy-It-Now” pricing for those who don’t like to wait.

After the Expo, take a scenic drive down 30A and enjoy the architectural views of Old Seagrove, Watersound, Alys Beach, Seacrest and Rosemary Beach.

Dine in style and load up on the carbs! Check out ‘no-reservation-needed’ restaurants such as Surfing Deer, Great Southern, Bud and Alley’s Rooftop Bar, Pizza Bar, Stinky’s Fish Camp and AJ’s.

Thinking ahead? Make reservations early for Restaurant Paradise, Borago, Caliza or Havana Beach Bar & Grill at The Pearl.

Did you forget a race day necessity? lululemon Grayton Beach is sure to have you covered and stays open until 7PM.

Now, get to bed, so you can rise and shine on Sunday morning!

It’s race day!

Check the weather before heading out to race and “suit up” for the day. We do offer a layer drop (with some fun bonuses), so you can collect items post race.

Be sure to arrive early and tie those laces tight! Matching outfits get bonus points. Run for that Vera Bradley beach tote… it’s calling your name!

After the race, stay for the afterparty in Seaside complete with amazing food, Grayton Beer, live music and fun for the entire crew.

Cool off with a quick trip to the beach before hitting the road. Who says you can’t take the salt water with you? Fly home with salty locks of hair and sun-kissed skin. Cry a few tears when you part ways from your best girlfriends. But don’t worry, you can do it again next year and call it your tradition.

It’s for the children.

Need another reason to register? 100% of the profits from the Seaside School Half Marathon & 5K and Taste of the Race benefit the Seaside Schools, tuition-free, local neighborhood schools serving students who not only live along Highway 30A, but also across Walton County.
