Thousands of runners, volunteers, supporters and community members have left their mark on the Seaside School Half Marathon & 5K since its inception in 2002. Perhaps no one’s mark has been more visible than that of Billie Gaffrey. Race shirts, finisher medals and race signage have adorned Billie’s unique, whimsical artistic style for years.
Always quick to contribute to the race, Billie Gaffrey’s ties to the Seaside Neighborhood School and the Seaside School Half Marathon & 5K are deep and personal. Billie is a local artist who has lived in South Walton for more than twenty years. Art has been her passion since childhood which she turned into a profession when she opened up her first art gallery, Gaffrey Art, in 1994. After serving on the Board of Directors for Seaside Neighborhood School from 2004-2007, she joined the faculty and began teaching art and has been imparting her skills and knowledge on the students of the school ever since.
Her unmistakable artistic touch is impossible to miss on race weekend. Just take a quick look around at any race event and you are sure to spot signage conceived and painted by Billie. Her art is a fixture of the weekend’s silent auction. Over the years, thousands of runners have gone home with a race shirt proudly displaying Billie’s latest annual design. Out on the course, dozens of roadside signs boasting sponsor shout outs and phrases of encouragement dot Scenic Hwy 30A. Her creativity and is even featured on the finisher medals.
New in 2020, the race’s official online merchandise store gives race fans and art lovers on opportunity to purchase unique gifts and race day must-haves featuring Billie’s 2020 race designs. Tube socks, beach towels and trucker hats are just a few of the products that are both distinctly Seaside and uniquely Billie.
