The 2022 Seaside School Half Marathon + 5K is coming back live and in person for the 20th running on February 20, 2022. A true weekend experience, this three-day event kicks off with amazing coastal cuisine at the Taste of the Race on Friday, February 18, 2022, plenty of fun for all ages at the Race Expo on Saturday, February 19, 2022, and the running of the Half Marathon + 5K along the iconic Highway 30A starting and finishing in Seaside on Sunday, February 20, 2022.

Whether you are a serious distance racer, a casual weekend walker, a supportive spectator or just someone looking to enjoy three days in Seaside at one of South Walton’s favorite annual traditions, come join the fun at the 20th Annual Seaside School Half Marathon + 5K Race Weekend. For those of our Seaside School family who can’t make the trip, the Race will also offer a limited number of virtual registrations. Get ready to sweat, connect and crush some run goals live and in-person… or from wherever you are in the world!

If you’ve ever seen the Jim Carrey film, The Truman Show, then you have an idea of South Walton’s beautiful coastal architecture, natural beauty and eye-catching scenery that you’ll find along the route at the annual race. For 2022, our Half Marathon racers will see a brand-new route, starting start in Seaside, running east — enjoying the gorgeous views of Eastern Lake, Deer Lake and Camp Creek Lake and ending back in the heart of Seaside in front of Bud & Alley’s. The 5K course remains the same as previous years and will take runners on a straightaway-style, out-and-back course along 30A through WaterColor and Grayton Beach.

You’ll feel immediately at ease in Seaside — here, most people get around by bike or by foot. Funky airstream trailers serve hot dogs, BBQ, shaved ice, crepes, smoothies, gourmet grilled cheeses and more; around Central Square, you’ll find cozy cafés and our local specialty market. This charming town is best experienced by actually spending time here. Those who own or rent homes in Seaside tend to make the Seaside School Half Marathon + 5K an annual trip, sharing it with generations of their family year after year, and look forward to making new memories and experiences with each trip.

Race Weekend offers three days of events for our runners and their cheering sections. Taste of the Race is one of Northwest Florida’s top culinary events with live music and a Silent Auction featuring a collection of items and experiences that are quintessential Seaside. Treat your tribe to the VIP experience at Taste of the Race to kick off the weekend in grand style.

The Race Expo is essentially one big party packed with vendors, food and live entertainment all afternoon. Pick-up your race packets (including bib and commemorative t-shirt) at the start of the Expo at noon or enjoy the beach for the day and drop by late afternoon before dinner.

Sunday is Race Day, which is followed by the crowd-pleasing, post-race party with local food, drinks, live music and much more. With the town of Seaside as the host, it’s no wonder why runners, beach lovers and foodies have this weekend marked on their calendars year after year.

2022 Race Swag

The 2022 swag will not disappoint. An Instagram-worthy memory that keeps our runners coming back year over year is receiving their Vera Bradley bag after they cross the finish line. Both in-person and virtual runners will receive Vera Bradley ReActive Sling Backpacks in either the Really Regatta, Black or Neon Ivy fabric.

Vera Bradley’s ReActive Sling Backpack provides the cargo space of a small backpack and the effortlessness of a hands-free crossbody style. The sustainably-sourced, ReActive material is made from recycled plastic water bottles – 10 bottles go into every pack. Lightweight and water-repellent too, it can be worn across your back or your chest for easier accessibility. Additionally, all of our participants will receive:

  • An iconic race shirt, designed by Billie Gaffrey
  • A virtual training program
  • A customized playlist
  • Our unique finisher medal
  • A virtual goody bag full of surprises

Event Safety

The health and safety of our participants, spectators, volunteers, and community is of the utmost importance. The Seaside School Race committee will follow and comply to the regulations dictated by the State of Florida, Walton County and Town of Seaside.

Supporting the Seaside School, Inc.

Proceeds from the Seaside School Half Marathon + 5K & Race Weekend benefit the Seaside School, Inc. Founded in 1996, The Seaside School, Inc. was one of the first and is the oldest, operable public charter schools in the state of Florida. The Seaside School opened to 36 students, 2 faculty members and a single administrator serving students in sixth through eighth grades. Today, the school has expanded to fifth through twelfth grades serving around 400 students. For the past 25 years, our ambitious staff, involved parents and supportive community have led the Seaside Schools, comprised of the Seaside Neighborhood School and Seacoast Collegiate High School, to be consistently recognized as leaders at both state and national achievement levels.

Our continued growth and success of The Seaside Way reaffirms what our charter pioneers understood a quarter-century ago. Led by continual support, exploration, accountability, scholarship, independence, dreams and effort, students cultivate their diversity and begin to understand ways that they can make unique contributions to society.

Thank you for participating and supporting the mission of Seaside School and local education in Walton County.
