Sure, it’s always exciting to train for your next running milestone, and who doesn’t love a good road race to show off their new gear, but we want to tell you what makes the Seaside School Half Marathon & 5K so special.
Is it the charming town of Seaside? How about the thought of running with emerald waters and white sand of the Gulf of Mexico as your view? Or how about the fabulous after-party with local culinary favorites, Grayton Beer Beach Blonde and Modica Market’s famous 32 oz. fresh mimosas to indulge in? All of these things make for a spectacular experience, but true spirit of the race is a school that has thrived for almost a quarter of a century because of your continued support.
Founded in 1996, The Seaside School, was one of the first and is now one of the oldest surviving public charter schools in the state of Florida. Its original goal was simple – create a school to address the need for better middle school education in Walton County – and we haven’t stopped since!
The mission of the Seaside Schools is to sustain an educational community where an emphasis on academic excellence is complemented by a genuine concern for each learner’s personal growth, including intellectual, aesthetic and psychological development.
Our curriculum is developmentally responsive – actively engaging students in learning skills in context – directing students to connect learning to daily lives, and exploratory – enabling students to discover their abilities, interests, learning styles and the unique ways that they can make an impact in their communities and society.
So when you register for the 2020 Seaside School Half Marathon on March 1st, rope a friend into running the 5K with you or enjoying the Taste of the Race pre-party, please know that your registration fees go directly to support a worthy cause – to give students an exceptional education and an opportunity to roadmap success in whatever field they endeavor. Our program provides middle school and high school students an opportunity for creative, elective classes such as gardening, music, culinary and fine arts, as well as an award-winning robotics program, advanced placement classes and career-readiness certification courses.
We are grateful for your support and participation, truly, so we’d like to say thank you, because we wouldn’t be who we are without you.
